The tulips are considered as indication of spring. The tulips blossoms during the spring. The gardens looks like a soft, silken coloured carpet. The view is purely charming with floral charisma. The Tulip Festival is an authentic springtime festival. Many varities of Tulips are grown over hectares of land. Holland is the largest producer of tulips.

The Tulip Festivals are often held in cities with Dutch heritage namely Holland, Ottawa in Ontario,Albany in New York, Mount Vernon in Washington and Woodburn. It is held every year in mid-May since 1929 when the first Tulip Festival was held. The Tulip Festival started as a beautification project by Lida Rogers, a biology teacher at Holland High School. In 1928, the Mayor bought 100,000 tulip bulbs from Netherlands and planted them all over the town.

By 1934, the festival became a national event which lasted for nine days. Dance, plays, and competitions were staged which fascinated people all over the country.

The festival is the multi-generational event with something for everyone. There are many celebrations which includes three parades, various shows and concerts, street scrubbing, fireworks, a craft fair, klompen dancing, carnivals, theatre shows, trelley tours, kids events  and a Dutch market. There are 3 parades in the festival- Volksparade, Kinderparade and Muziekparade. Volksparade is the first parade where the people broom pails scrub as part of Dutch Cleanliness tradition. This comprises of parade of colorful bands and floats and Dutch Dance by groups in authentic costumes and wooden shoes. Kinderparade features children in Dutch costumes showcasing Dutch heritage. The grand finale is by Muziekparade which feature marching bands, giant helium ballons, floats, horses and much more. Tourists from all over the world come to see millions of tulips planted in parks, gardens and lanes.
